Spanish midfielder signed lifetime contract with Catalan club

Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta said on Friday that he will continue to play "until he can give enough" to the Catalan club, leader of the Spanish league with which he has just signed a lifetime contract.

Iniesta thanked the "opportunity and confidence" of the club and president, Josep María Bartomeu, who noted that "in 118 years of history, it was the first time a player of the first football team signs a lifetime contract."

"It's an exceptional agreement that will fill the club's fans with satisfaction," Bartomeu said, adding that the 33-year-old Spanish international is "a reference for future generations."

Iniesta has played all his career in Barcelona, ??since the children's in 1996, and currently is the great symbol of the club, taking on the captain's armband of the Spanish team.

The midfielder has 639 games and 55 goals since he made his team debut on October 29, 2002.

He has been the first captain since the summer of 2015 and a culé symbol, starting in 1996 when he joined the club at the age of 12 and, along with Messi, is the player with the most titles in the team.
